Biography
Diana Louise DeGette ( dih-GHET; born July 29, 1957) is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Colorado's 1st congressional district, which is based in Denver, since 1997. Previously, she served in the Colorado House of Representatives from 1993 to 1997. She is a member of the Democratic Party. A progressive, DeGette was first elected to Congress in 1996. She served as Democratic chief deputy whip from 2005 to 2019, and has been the dean of Colorado's congressional delegation since 2007. In 2026, DeGette lost renomination in the Democratic primary to democratic socialist Melat Kiros.
